Welcome to
Berunes

Iceland’s Longest Running Farm Hostel

The Berunes family has welcomed travelers from all over the world since 1973. Berunes is a unique location in the East Fjords, featuring a spectacular mountain range and a tranquil seafront.

We invite you to stay and enjoy our beautiful home.

Accommodation in the East Fjords of Iceland

Berunes offers diverse accommodations – cottages, private apartments, and various rooms, including a 120-year-old farmhouse, an old smithy and a renovated barn. All areas have their charm, lounges, Wi-Fi and access to kitchen and laundry. Our breakfast buffet is open daily from 8-10am for 2500 ISK per adult, half price for kids.

Berunes Restaurant

The popular Berunes Restaurant is open from June 1st to September 10th 2024. Every night, from 5pm, we serve a menu inspired by seasonal local ingredients from land and sea. The bar is open into the evening with a selection of Icelandic spirits and craft beer from nearby breweries on tap.  We recommend reserving your table in advance.

The Campsite

Berunes offers a cozy, well-equipped campsite with stunning views of the fjord and mountains. You’ll find electricity for campervans, a tent area, free Wi-Fi, basic restroom and shower facilities, a kitchen, and a little creek for the kids. We welcome all campers to enhance their camp life by enjoying our restaurant, bar, or morning breakfast.

Things to Do: Hiking & Recreation

We recommend staying multiple nights to enjoy our doorstep activities. Numerous hiking trails suit all abilities, including a marked path to Berunestindur’s peak and down to the tranquil shoreline with its rich birdlife. Within a 30-minute drive, you can find kayaking, mountain cycling, horseback riding, and renowned mineral exhibitions.

Our Reviews

True Icelandic family spirit
"We came across this place quite by accident, because we usually book in just a couple of hours on our way. As a result, we are lucky to get into a place like Berunes Hi Hostel. It's well hidden, in the wilderness - between the coast and the mountains. There are no words to describe the hospitality and beauty of the place where the hostel is located. And of course - their tribute to the traditions."

Best hostel I have ever stayed at
"This was hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed at. The staff are so kind, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The restaurant was a very welcome surprise and the food was exceptional. The rooms are very clean and cozy, and all at a reasonable price. I also appreciated the emphasis on sustainability! You can tell this place is run from the heart, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone travelling along the East fjords."

Picturesque location and beautifully clean with a warm welcome
"Very picturesque setting and an incredible drive to get there. Beautifully clean and well cared for property and the welcome was very warm. We didn’t have dinner there as we had other plans but it looked great. The breakfast we did have and it was very nice and I especially enjoyed the homemade elements to it. Thank you for our stay!"
