Accommodation

We have a wide range of accommodation – small cottages, comfy apartments for private rentals (ideal for families) and rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen. You can stay in an old smithy, 120-year-old farmhouse, a newly renovated barn, the red Hymns or in our old family house. All rooms and areas have a free wi-fi and for a small fee guests can use the shared laundry facilities.

Berunes restaurant

The popular Berunes Restaurant is open all summer. Every night, from 5pm, we serve a menu inspired by seasonal local ingredients from land and sea. The bar is open into the evening with a selection of Icelandic spirits and selected craft beer from nearby breweries on tap. We are up early and offer breakfast buffet from 8 until 10 every morning. We recommend reserving your table in advance.

The campsite

Our campsite is cozy and well equipped. It has amazing views over the fjord and the mountain range. There you will find electricity for campervans, grass for basic tents, free wi-fi, a simple restroom and shower facilities, a small kitchen, and a little creek for the kids. We welcome all campers to take a break from the camp life and enjoy our restaurant and bar, the morning, and evening.

Hiking and recreation

Staying for more than one night is highly recommended as there are plenty of activities to enjoy right from our doorstep. Hiking trails are numeral and can be adjusted to different ability levels. A marked trail leads to the top of Berunestindur and the way down to the tranquil shoreline with its rich birdlife is easily found. Within 30 minutes drive you can find various recreation ranging from kayaks to horses and famous stone museums. From Berunes to Egilsstaðir is about hour’s drive via Öxi.

Our reviews

True Icelandic family spirit
"We came across this place quite by accident, becuae we usually book in just a couple of hours on our way. As a result, we are lucky to get into a place like Berunes Hi Hostel. It's well hidden, in the wilderness - between the lake and the mountains. There are no words to describe the hospitality and beauty of the places where the hostel is located. And of course - their tribute to the traditions."

Best hostel I have ever stayed at
"This was hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed at. The staff are so kind, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The pop up restaurant was a very welcome surprise and the food was exceptional. The rooms are very clean and cozy, and all at a reasonable price. I also appreciated the emphasis on sustainability! You can tell this place is run from the heart, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone travelling along the East fjords."

Picturesque location and beautifully clean with a warm welcome
"Very picturesque setting and an incredible drive to get there. Beautifully clean and well cared for property and the welcome was very warm. We didn’t have dinner there as we had other plans but it looked great. The breakfast we did have and it was very nice and I especially enjoyed the homemade elements to it. Thank you for our stay!"
