Berunes

Iceland’s longest running Farm Hostel

Family-friendly stay and gourmet dining in Iceland’s stunning East Fjords.

Magical stay at the Fjord

Berunes offers a variety of stays: from simple yet authentic rooms for 2–4 people with shared or private bathrooms, to the historic farmhouse available for private rental, and a selection of cozy tiny houses.

Each space is unique, with its own character and charm, and guests have access to a fully equipped guest kitchen, lounges, and laundry facilities.

You’ll find the best rates & service when booking directly.

We look forward to welcoming you next summer!

Berunes Restaurant

Some say the restaurant has the finest views of the East Fjords.

Our menu changes daily, crafted by Róbert Ólafsson and the head chef, with the freshest local ingredients. Each evening we prepare a set 4-course menu.

We pour local craft beer and a list of our favorite European wines.

Campsite

A favorite camping spot to many, sheltered from the wind yet with breathtaking views over the mountain range and sea.

Facilities include all the essentials, and electricity for up to 12 vehicles.

From here, you can step straight onto the marked hiking trail to the summit of Mt. Berunestindur, or down to the shoreline.

As part of your stay, drop by the Restaurant & Bar to enjoy a cold drink and a meal to remember.

Open April – October.
Reservations recommended during high season.

Walks & Wonders

From Berunes, a path may lead you up Mt. Berunestindur or along the bird-rich coastline.

A short drive opens up family-friendly hikes, striking waterfalls, kayaking, horse farms, mineral exhibitions, and art markets.

Perfectly located midway between Höfn and Seyðisfjörður,
within 90 minutes you reach Hengifoss or Vök Baths.

So close to the East greatest treasures, yet quietly nestled by the fjord.

"True Icelandic family spirit"
We came across this place quite by accident, because we usually book in just a couple of hours on our way. As a result, we are lucky to get into a place like Berunes Hi Hostel. It's well hidden, in the wilderness - between the coast and the mountains. There are no words to describe the hospitality and beauty of the place where the hostel is located. And of course - their tribute to the traditions.

"Best hostel I have ever stayed at"
This was hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed at. The staff are so kind, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The restaurant was a very welcome surprise and the food was exceptional. The rooms are very clean and cozy, and all at a reasonable price. I also appreciated the emphasis on sustainability! You can tell this place is run from the heart, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone travelling along the East fjords.

"Picturesque location and beautifully clean with a warm welcome"
Very picturesque setting and an incredible drive to get there. Beautifully clean and well cared for property and the welcome was very warm. We didn’t have dinner there as we had other plans but it looked great. The breakfast we did have and it was very nice and I especially enjoyed the homemade elements to it. Thank you for our stay!
